What's your carbon footprint?

Getting a sense of your impact is one of the best ways to start understanding climate change. Use this tool to see how you stack up.

Conserve what you can

The first step to reducing your climate footprint should always be to conserve what you can. Here's a tip that others have used successfully:

#7: Use power strips to eliminate standby power loss.

If it’s plugged in, it’s probably pulling power. Other than lamps, pretty much anything that has a power cord can never really be turned off—it still uses a little “standby” electricity. About 10% of the electricity you buy is wasted this way. You can eliminate standby power use by plugging appliances and electronics into power strips that you turn off when you’re done. Just doing this with your home office system will save enough electricity in a year to run your refrigerator for three months!

Note: Some devices, such as DVRs and satellite boxes, will loose stored information when unplugged. These may need reprogramming or time to download information when power is restored.

Did you know…

The more you know about climate change, the more you can make a difference.

About the blend

The carbon offsets you earn come from a “blend” of different renewable energy projects in our portfolio. We balance the blend so that it includes a wide variety of technologies and regions while remaining cost-effective. Over time, the blend changes — as projects are depleted, replaced, and added to the portfolio.

(We encourage you to look at our Impact section for an idea of how these projects help the environment and their local communities.)
