Our renewable energy projects, in communities across the U.S., decrease our national dependence on carbon-emitting “dirty” energy sources like coal burning power plants. Some are wind power in public school districts or open lands and others are cow power on family farms. Funded with the help of people like you, they all meet Brighter Planet’s stringent standards and build a clean-energy future.
The difference we've made already
Members have offset 65,603,649 lbs. CO2 —that's like taking 1,978,953 cars off the road for a day. What would your impact be?

Why our projects are better
Brighter Planet offsets fund top-notch renewable energy projects.
-
They meet our rigorous carbon offset policy
Not all offsets are created equal. We select only premium, source-side renewable energy projects. These projects are additional—that is, they would not have been built without the funding from offset sales—and always provide social value to their host communities. All this is necessary to meet our rigorous Carbon offset policy.
-
Our project selection committee has the final say
It's not enough to just make claims to quality—you have to verify it. That's why all of our carbon offset projects are submitted to our Project selection committee for approval—only those that stand up to their expert scrutiny get added to our portfolio.
-
We're prepared
We always estimate carbon reductions conservatively—this creates a buffer of protection for unforeseen problems. Because our offsets come from a portfolio of projects, we can make up for shortfalls from one project with surplus from another. This is our Portfolio Promise.
“[Brighter Planet] buys the world time in the fight against global warming... by paying for projects that reduce greenhouse gases, [it] educates consumers and allows them to do something more with their rewards than purchasing airline tickets and hotel stays.” —Mindy S. Lubber, President of Ceres.
